Heuristics are prevalent in Agile Supply Chains.

Agile Supply Chains work on the principle of full and fast response to changing demand patterns. The aim is to catch the demand shift early and respond adequately.

The supply response is worked out at the pace of new demand data, which could be daily in FMCG companies and hourly in Quick Commerce. Since speed of response is critical in such cases, we don’t necessarily have to wait to run full-fledged optimisation models every time.

Agile Supply Chains typically run on Heuristics, which don’t aim for perfection but give quick and adequate response, based on pull-based replenishment principles. Any deviation from the perfect response gets self-corrected in the next run.

A classic case where speed triumphs over perfection!
