Focus Supply Chain improvements on the constraint and bottlenecks.
Improving the current Supply Chain is a way of life for most teams. They would usually work on a number of improvement ideas, which can be quite overwhelming for the team.
We know that only a handful of these improvements will give us the lion’s share of the overall system benefits. Should we actually focus our attention sharply on them?
When I discuss this point with the teams, they are often clueless on how to identify these handful of vital improvement ideas.
TOC provides an extremely useful framework to identify the system constraint as well as various bottlenecks coming in our way. These are the real leverage points to work on.
Once the direction of solution is agreed upon as improving the flow, these improvement projects are easily identified.
Focus on just these and the team will have sufficient time to improve the entire supply chain at a fraction of the current effort.
