Can Quantum Theory provide a solution to multitasking?
We have heard from several experts that multitasking is bad, as it brings down the efficiency and effectiveness of our work. At the same time, many of us continue to handle several projects in parallel. Is there a way to avoid the inherent conflict between the two?
We can possibly take inspiration from Quantum Theory, which states that in order to move from a lower energy state to a higher energy one, we must provide energy in certain pre-defined quantum. If the energy supplied is less than that, we would fall back to the earlier state.
While working on a project, we must carry out uninterrupted work of a certain quantum, else it may not add value in terms of moving the project forward. Once we have moved to the next stage, we may like to switch to another task or another project. The quantum of energy for a meaningful change in project status may vary across projects, but the concept is quite useful.
In essence, we should move from multitasking to the concept of ‘Serial Monotasking’!
