Agility in Supply Chain must bring down the team’s workload.
Several companies are currently implementing Agile supply chain processes and practices. These cover all the functions of Planning, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Distribution.
We need to check periodically if the agile implementation is going in the right direction. How do we do it quickly?
Companies normally check the impact on overall objectives of improving fill rate, improving product freshness, and improving profits. These are the right metrics.
However, an important check is usually missing.
Will it sustain in the long run?
The indicator for that is reducing the workload of the team. Is the new behaviour easier on people? I have seen some implementations fail because the team’s workload went up substantially.
Right implementation must reduce the workload. Less expediting. Less manual checks and confirmations. Smoother flow.
