Do you monitor stockouts over the weekends as well?
I know this is a controversial topic with strong views on either side. Why should the supply chain team work on their off days? Let them take a break from the day-to-day activities and spend some time with their family.
The discussion normally evolves over the effort required for monitoring. In my opinion, the discussion should happen on the mindset, whether supply chain activities are perceived by the team as an essential service or not. Do consumers expect stock availability over the weekends when they go shopping?
I have seen some teams who treat their work as an essential service and spend a few minutes even on the weekends to check for stockout exceptions. They also take some urgent actions, if required.
No one should force the team to do it over the weekends. It either comes from inside to maintain continuous availability or it is seen as an additional effort.
