When should you relook at the design of your supply chain?
Every supply chain is designed for a specific context… customer segments served by the company, their specific needs, and current level of supply chain capabilities. As the context changes, supply chains need to be tweaked and fine-tuned for continued high performance. The question is… how the supply chain teams will know that it is time for a relook at the design.
A well-designed supply chain should run on an autopilot. Front line teams should carry out day-to-day execution without taking specific instructions from their seniors.
Senior team should intervene only in specific cases such as a major shift in demand pattern, major supply disruption, or improving the supply chain capabilities for a faster and more reliable service.
If such interventions from the senior team are happening too often, you should relook at the supply chain design.
