Celebrate early wins.
When supply chain teams take up improvement initiatives to make their supply chain more agile, they often need early confirmation that their efforts are going in the right direction.
For example, if they expect agility to bring down stockouts and reduce surplus inventories, we should first install a reliable system to report these two metrics daily. If the initiative has been designed well, the results will start showing immediately. When the needle on these two metrics moves in the right direction, we should celebrate with the team to further improve their confidence and enthusiasm.
If we don’t celebrate early wins, naysayers may continue to cast doubts on the improvement efforts. Teams need positive reinforcement that their efforts are showing results.
