Asymmetric behaviour around Supply Chain KPI review leads to low commitment.
Supply Chain teams work on several KPIs. Some of these are truly customer-facing while many others are internal in nature. These KPIs are generally reviewed in a management meeting.
While over-achievement on KPIs is appreciated, we end up spending disproportionate time on under-achievements. The tone of review, unfortunately, puts the responsibility of under-achievement on the person holding the KPI.
TOC firmly believes that people are good, under-performance is due to ineffective systems and processes.
My suggestion would be to shift the focus of KPI review on the underlying processes and how to improve them. This applies to both under-achievement as well as over-achievement.
If we continue to focus on people, they would start under-committing on the KPIs.
