Agility is not a binary indicator.
I am often asked by Supply Chain leaders questions like ‘How do we know whether our company is agile or not?’ or ‘What should we do to become an agile company?’.
There is a general misconception that agility is binary… we are either agile or not agile. We need to change our mind set to accept agility as a continuous variable.
Every company which is growing and making money is agile. It’s a question of where we are on a scale of 0-100. No company is at 0 and no one is at 100.
Wherever our company is on the agility scorecard, it is possible to become more agile and that should be our real goal.
The 3 primary supply chain capabilities required for agility are ‘sharp demand sensing’, ‘flexibility in operations’ and ‘responsiveness to demand changes’. These should be a part of our POOGI.
Let’s leverage these 3 capabilities for our bottleneck resources and get more agile.
