Do SOPs stifle creativity in Supply Chain?

Line functions like supply chain involve several repetitive tasks, which must be performed efficiently, day in and day out. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for such repetitive tasks are quite common across industries.

While these SOPs serve a good purpose when they are created and deployed, do they stifle creativity in the long run? Do employees get used to maintaining status quo?

SOPs are created for a specific context. However, these contexts change over time as market structures and customer preferences evolve. SOPs should also evolve accordingly.

If SOPs are taken as strict instructions to be followed, even when the context requires a change, it does stifle creativity.

When did you last revise your SOPs?
