How to enthuse Supply Chain teams on major improvement initiatives?
If we are working on a major supply chain improvement initiative, it is important that the team involved in designing and executing it is enthused. There are umpteen examples of initiatives failing to deliver their promise due to lack of enthusiastic support from the team. How do we enthuse them?
Let’s take an example. We have seen high stockouts of our products in the retail outlets. Such high levels of stockouts mean that consumers would shift to our competitors, leading to a loss in our market share and a sharp decline in our business. We would like to reduce stockouts by at least 50%. At the same time, we would like to eliminate surplus inventory in the system lying at several locations, to offer fresh products to consumers. Demand Driven Supply Chain is the way to go.
This urgency must be shared with the team. If we fail to do it, the initiative will be seen as just another one.
How well are you communicating the urgency of the improvement initiative?
