New Year resolutions often reflect a ‘large batch’ mindset.

I have observed New Year resolutions of so many people and wondered why they try setting such ambitious objectives for the whole year, when the future is so full of uncertainty. Are we giving enough importance to the inherent uncertainty which could make the resolutions almost impossible to achieve? Or make them just a cake walk? After all, how many people could fulfil their resolutions in the pandemic year of 2020?

I would recommend setting resolutions which aim at improving the processes. For example, if your organisation is struggling with an internal constraint, you could resolve to push it to market demand by the end of the year. Or subordinate all the internal functions to the current constraint. Or drive your supply chain execution based on actual market demand.

My experience in working with companies across various industry sectors indicates that process based resolutions deliver far greater benefits than setting large ambitious goals.

Happy New Year!
