Of late, many companies are investing considerable time, effort and money In Supply Chain visibility. They are even extending it from suppliers’ suppliers to customers’ customers, wherever possible.
The question is… is this visibility enough to run an effective and efficient supply chain?
Visibility is just a pre-requisite and the starting point. What we do with this visibility is crucial.
Do we use it for Demand Sensing to decipher emerging demand patterns at the granular level? Do we use it to create execution plans to meet ongoing demand on a near real time basis?
Visibility must lead to sensing and responding to demand changes in an agile manner. Else it remains just an expenditure without commensurate returns.
