Supply Chain solutions – ‘Simple & Elegant’ or ‘Complex & Difficult’?
It’s a dilemma that consultants often face. Supply Chain teams would love simple and elegant solutions to their pressing problems. However, solution providers often prefer complex and difficult solutions, which makes their solution look unique and probably more value-adding.
What creates this dilemma and how do we solve it?
The confusion arises if we look at the solutions from the ‘Efforts’ perspective. Complex and difficult solutions take more effort and time to implement, hence looking superior from this viewpoint.
My suggestion is to look at the solutions from the ‘Value’ perspective. How much addition value does the solution generate? Higher effort and time should actually be treated as a negative under this lens.
Once we change our perspective, simple and elegant solutions, with less effort and faster implementation, clearly score out.
