Adding Demand Sensing capability to the Replenishment solution makes it much more effective.
Many companies have now moved to replenishment in their Supply Chain, convinced that it improves product availability as well as product freshness. However, there are still some apprehensions about adding Demand Sensing capability to the whole process.
When I speak to these teams, it is quite clear that the apprehensions are largely around the mechanics of integrating Demand Sensing with their Replenishment solution. Actually, it is quite easy, effortless and hands-off.
Output of Demand Sensing can be passed on to the Replenishment engine through various means, such as APIs and bulk upload of csv files. Once the pipeline is designed and scheduled to run periodically, the two systems work like one with seamless transfer of inputs both ways. Demand Driver data flows from the current Planning system into Demand Sensing and demand predictions flow back into the Planning engine at a predefined frequency and granularity.
My suggestion is to go ahead and get the best of both the worlds as if these were an integral part of a single solution.
