Planning systems in Supply Chain should be transparent.

I have recently noticed some companies implementing a complicated Planning tool, which is more like a black box. It takes several data inputs and suggests various supply actions.

Do the team members understand its logic and formulae? Can they explain the rationale behind their supply actions?

Such black box solutions struggle with the buy-in of teams. No wonder supply execution often defaults to the earlier logic and earlier practices.

Supply Chains are indeed complex, with several inter-dependent components, each with its own variability. However, the way to solve for this complexity is by simplifying the logic and processes. There is no need to complicate it.
