Is your supply chain getting increasingly complex?
Most supply chain professionals feel their supply chains are getting more complex to manage – both on the demand side due to proliferation of sales channels, and on the supply side due to recent focus on source diversification. What type of actions do we need to manage these complex supply chains?
Companies often see each of the complexity issues as independent and focus on solving them. The challenge looks daunting and leads to complex solutions, often affecting other parts of the supply chain.
Whenever we feel the complexity has gone up, a good starting point is to have a relook at the supply chain design. It is quite possible that some of the policies, processes, and practices designed for the earlier simpler environment are causing these issues. A simple tweak in some of these policies, processes, and practices can solve many issues simultaneously and bring out the inherent simplicity of the supply chain.
