Only a few Supply Chain improvement models are sustainable.

There are many models floating around to improve supply chain performance. We should be careful in applying them as some of them adversely impact an important consumer need. While these could yield some benefits in the short run, these are difficult to sustain in the long run.

Just to recap, the important consumer needs are Availability, Freshness, Quality and Cost. Only a few models offer improved performance on some of these metrics and neutrality on others.

Some examples of sustainable models include Theory of Constraints (TOC), Kanban, Lean, Six Sigma, Poka Yoke, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).

Which other models, in your opinion, qualify as sustainable?
