How should the q-commerce companies look at assortment and availability?

Success in q-commerce requires a good Demand Driven Supply Chain design, coupled with high level of agility in execution. Most of these companies suffer from frequent stockouts, depending on their current supply chain capability. At the same time, it is tempting to increase the assortment and offer a wider range to consumers. Higher assortment, in turn, leads to even higher stockouts.

Should the q-commerce companies focus on wider assortment with higher stockouts, or a narrower assortment with less stockouts? My experience with many q-commerce companies indicates that they prefer to go for wider assortment.

In my opinion, the promise of q-commerce is to deliver peace of mind to their consumers… their requirements will be fulfilled within 10 minutes! Delivering this promise requires that stocks be available in the nearest dark store. Higher availability will build the brand faster and in a more sustainable manner!

As their supply chain capability improves, assortment should be increased, maintaining the already achieved high availability levels.
