Early sensing could be a life saver!
On 26th December, 2004, beaches in Malaysia were brimming with tourists enjoying the Sun. Among them was a family with a pre-teen kid.
She noticed that the tides in the ocean suddenly vanished and the ocean looked calm and serene. She had learned about this pattern in her school. She sensed danger and alerted her parents to run away from the beach as fast as they could. She was possibly the only one to act on it.
A huge wave of Tsunami followed a few minutes later. Her family were among the very few who survived.
Tsunamis have a distinct pattern that the tides stop a few minutes earlier. Sensing and acting on it turned out to be a life saver for her family.
Humans can remember and recognize only a few patterns. Machine Learning algorithms can recognise and interpret thousands of such patterns and alert us in advance with the proposed course of action.
Demand disruptions are here to stay. Early recognition and action could be a life saver for the supply chains.
