Is your supply chain dashboard too cluttered?

I have seen supply chain dashboards of many companies and they look very cluttered, with several bar charts, pie charts, line graphs showing the current set of KPIs. In some cases, I remember seeing 12 such depictions on a single screen. To top it up, each KPI has previous day’s performance, month-to-date, year-to-date figures and targets.

The utility and adoption of such cluttered dashboards is very low. Companies spend large amounts of time, money and effort in developing these dashboards, only to find that the returns are seldom justified.

Supply chain dashboards should be actionable, depicting only the exceptions. If a KPI has been within the expected range, there is no point looking at it day in and day out.
