Supply chain improvement projects yield benefits with a time lag

Benefits from a supply chain improvement project often come with a time lag. While a few projects would give immediate benefits, most projects would have it after a certain time. It is important to estimate this lag to set realistic expectations.

I have often seen professionals get impatient when they don’t see immediate benefits. They start fidgeting with the design parameters in their quest to set the system right. The reason is cited as mid-course correction.

If we set the right time expectations, team members should be patient. The design parameters should not be tampered with. It’s a good practice to set the first review date for feedback and mid-course correction. Let the design parameters be undisturbed during this period.

After all, we don’t need to pull the carrot out every day to check if it’s growing properly!
