Supply Chains have inherent simplicity.
Supply chain teams often remark that their own supply chains are inherently complex and the complexity has gone up in the recent past. The sentiment is echoed by solution providers and consultants who find it convenient to point out that these complexities require expert solutions.
However, if we think about it, most of these complexities arise from our own false assumptions, conflicting management policies, sub-optimal processes and certain industry wide practices focused on local optimisations.
Further analysis reveals that supply chains are inherently simple to operate provided we take the system view, focus on consumers, sense demand at the granular level on an ongoing basis, respond fast in a simple manner, and develop flexibility to orchestrate supplies in line with the demand.
The simpler the solution, the more effective the supply chain becomes!
