Why do so many Supply Chain initiatives fail to deliver their promise?

Supply chain leaders are full of stories when their well-designed initiatives failed to deliver the promised benefits. I have listened to lots of them. When I ask them to diagnose what actually went wrong, they are often clueless.

I have analysed several of these initiatives with the teams and the major root cause seems to be common across all of them.

Here is the spoiler. It’s an assumption which goes unstated in the entire initiative development process and which is inherently wrong.

What do you think it could be?

Would love to hear your views. I will cover it in my next post, followed by a few common examples in subsequent posts.
