How should we implement large scale supply chain transformation projects?

Many companies are currently looking at large scale transformation projects to make their supply chain more consumer focused, agile and resilient. At the same time, we have also seen a large number of such implementations delivering sub-optimal benefits. What is the way out?

Should we go for a big bang implementation using technology? Such projects would typically entail fundamental changes in most of the underlying processes. Teams sometimes find it overwhelming and feel that new ways of working have been thrust upon them.

Should we instead look for incremental process improvements and tweaking? This approach gets the team buy-in, however, it is quite possible that the improvements are not well coordinated, some of these may even be conflicting.
