How do we experiment improvements in Supply Chain?
Supply chain teams are generally flush with improvement ideas, properly analysed on paper and in simulations. However, these remain as ideas unless implemented in real life situations. How should we experiment them?
If the process improvement is in a functional area like procurement, manufacturing, warehousing or logistics, we can experiment these with new vendors, new lines, new warehouses and new servicing lanes. However, most companies let go of this opportunity and replicate the current process with them. While it’s comforting to start with the current proven process, we miss out on the golden opportunity for experimentation.
It's always a choice between stability (status quo) and improvement (change). How often do we choose improvement?
Companies with a growth mindset utilize as many such opportunities as possible.
