Assumptions behind prevailing industry practices in Supply Chain must be questioned for breakthrough improvements.

Every industry has certain prevailing supply chain practices which are taken as given. Most teams don’t question these practices. In fact, they don’t even realise or think about the inherent assumptions behind them.

Many of these practices were built decades ago in the context of lack of transparency and lack of trust between business partners, e.g. the need to push sales to channel partners and block their shelf space and working capital. If we continue to follow these practices, the partnerships will continue to be strained. Harmonious working requires such practices to be challenged and invalidated.

Teams who have questioned these assumptions have broken through the pack and surged ahead in terms of their performance.

What are the industry practices you have questioned and invalidated recently?
