Darwin’s Principle of Natural Selection favours Agile Supply Chains.

Principle of Natural Selection is an important mechanism in Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. It says that organisms which are able to adapt to the surrounding context have a higher chance of survival. Let’s see if it has lessons for supply chains.

We know that the market context is getting more volatile, more disruptive and less predictable. Competition is getting more intense. Delivery channels are proliferating. Consumers have more and more options to choose from.

In such a scenario, companies which are quick to read demand shifts and respond to them comprehensively will capture higher share of the market. As agile companies grow bigger and less agile incumbent leaders struggle, agility becomes even more important to survive.

The market will favour agility as per Darwin’s principle.

Empirical evidence all over the globe supports it. More so after the launch of E-Commerce. We see industry leaders struggling with low single digit growth. Their new age competitors double their revenue every 2 to 3 years.

The choice is clear. Do you want to follow the decades-old supply chain practices and struggle with low growth? Or do you accelerate your revenue and market share with an agile supply chain?

Time is running out…
