Should you break the rules in Supply Chain?

There is a lot of hype these days that Supply Chain rules are meant to be broken. Unless we break the rules, we can’t achieve breakthrough. The question is… who should break the rules? Are there any guardrails in this regard?

Picasso once said ‘Master the rules before you can break them’. Rules can be broken only by those who know them inside out and have first mastered them over time. Until we know what the rules are meant for, until we have used these rules efficiently over time, we should not attempt to break them.

I have seen liberal use of ‘break the rules’ creating chaos in many cases. On the other hand, companies who have put guardrails around it have managed to get many breakthroughs without creating chaos.
