How do children learn to walk on slippery floors?

We have seen children falling on slippery floors. We have also slipped as children. Isn’t it amazing how children learn to walk on such slippery floors on their own?

They learn to look down to judge how slippery the immediate path is, they learn to take smaller steps, they learn to slow down their pace.

Slippery floors represent more uncertainty in the near horizon. Looking down is sensing how the immediate horizon looks like. Smaller steps are more frequent planning. Slowing down is their fast response, which comes with developing flexibility.

If only we could learn the fundamental concepts of Agile Supply Chains from children… Demand Sensing, more frequent planning, Responsiveness, and Flexibility in operations.

Agility is simple, isn’t it?
