Frequency of planning impacts supply chain resilience.

Of late, some companies have resorted to less frequent planning to save their team’s effort. Ironically, it results in more firefighting and expediting, which takes much more time of their team members.

Frequency of planning should ideally be same as the frequency at which you get fresh market inputs on consumer demand. Many companies get fresh sales data at the most granular level on a daily basis. If we set planning frequency at a more relaxed level, we would miss out on some of the important market signals on our products and end up responding to it late.

Our endeavor should be to take fresh market inputs every day and tweak our distribution, production and procurement actions accordingly. This would result in a more resilient supply chain with better consumer service.
